Family Music Night Success – 31/07/2018

A noisy, interactive Family Music Night was held in the Middle Years building on Tuesday, 31 July. The Family Music Night was enthusiastically attended by many of our instrumental music students and their families despite the terrible weather! Our instrumental music students were wonderful ‘teachers’ and taught their parents how to play and sing vocal, or violin and cello warmups. Our Instrumental Music Teacher, Mrs Fiona Pugh spoke about our Instrumental Music Program and practical ways parents can assist their child at home with their music practice.

The evening concluded with a video prepared by Australian Neuroscientist, Music Educator and TED talker, Dr Anita Collins about how learning a musical instrument benefits the brain and can enhance student learning. This was followed by a short performance by our music students. Thank you everyone for a great night of music making at Terang College!

Our next instrumental music event is our Spring Concert on Tuesday, 11 September. Students who learn or play music out of school are also encouraged to come along and perform at the Spring Concert. Please contact Mrs Pugh if you would like to be part of the Spring Concert by text on 0437 588 785 or email pugh.fiona.j@edumail.vic.gov.au.
