HSSSD Senior Cricket – 13/02/2023

11 confident senior cricketers made their way with Mr. Fraser to Timboon on 13/02/23, keen to see how they matched up with the Timboon boys in the first game at Timboon School Oval. Terang lost the toss, and had to bowl first in conditions that were overcast and damp, with several light showers coming across the ground in the first ten overs. Terang bowled well early, but were unable to get an early wicket, and as the ball became wet and difficult to control, Timboon’s opening batsmen began to score at a brisk pace. Ned took the first wicket with the score on 88 and Sam Carroll bowled consistently to finish with 3 for 22 from his 4 overs, but Timboon managed the imposing score of 157 from their 20 overs.

In reply with the bat, Terang got off to a good start with Tyler and Ned putting together 73 for the first wicket, and when Tyler was dismissed for 21, Henry continued where Tyler had left off and scored quickly until being trapped in front LBW for 14. Wickets then continued to fall regularly, including Darcy unlucky to be out caught with a spectacular one handed return catch to the bowler, and Ned being runout by a direct hit after scoring 69 superb runs. In the end, the consistent Timboon bowling restricted Terang to 6 for 135 off their 20 overs, going down by 22 runs. A great effort to get this close to a solid Timboon outfit in less than ideal weather conditions.

The second game was against Cobden, in a shortened match due to both teams needing to get back for school buses. Cobden batted first, and Terang bowled tight early without luck. When the innings was closed, Terang had kept Cobden to 78 runs, with Oliver taking 3 wickets.

Tyler and Ned again saw Terang off to a good start, until Ned was out stumped for 33 while trying to hit the ball back to Terang. After a flurry of quick wickets, Sam and Tyler steadied the ship before Sam was dismissed late, and the innings finished with the score on 86 and a solid win.

The boys had a fun day in the field, played some good cricket, and played the game in a great, positive spirit.
