VISITING ARTISTS Terang College students have been very fortunate to work with Gunditjmara Keerray Woorroong artists, Vicki and Lisa Couzens.
Both Vicki and Lisa have many years of experience in creative cultural expression and they shared this with the Year 5 & 6 students. Students were fascinated with the Possum Skin Cloak and the Marngrook (a ball made from possum skin). Some students really enjoyed playing with the Marngrook during the lunch break.
After the informative talk, students broke up into smaller groups to work on a mural design, which will be painted at the front of the school in the upcoming weeks.
Using the meanings of Aboriginal language place names, students created designs representing where they live. They also illustrated the animals in the Kayap Keeleeng story.
The mural project with Lisa and Vicki will continue next week with the year 7-10 classes.
We wish to thank Acciona for the sponsorship of this project and to Vicki and Lisa for educating us on the Kirrae Whurrong Peoples culture, language and traditions.
