Terang College has a strong commitment to the personal development and wellbeing of all students. We believe in strengthening each student’s physical, social, emotional, and mental wellbeing. We will continue to develop and modify our Wellbeing structure to meet the needs of our students as they grow and change. By continuously adapting our programs we aim to offer our students the service which is most suited to them as individuals. Health Promotion At Terang College we understand the importance of looking after the health of our students and their support networks. Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve their health and wellbeing. By providing health information in the forms of education, activities, guest speakers, resources and wellbeing days we aim to allow our students to foster good health and wellbeing. Health promotion activities are geared toward promoting health and preventing ill-health rather than focusing on people at risk for specific diseases. Wellness comprises of eight mutually co-dependence dimensions: emotional, physical, occupational, social, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, and financial. Addressing all eight dimensions of wellness in our lives builds a holistic sense of wellness and fulfillment. 1 on 1 Counselling The Wellbeing team offers students the opportunity to speak confidentially with an adult that best suits there needs. This may come in the form of class teacher, school counsellor, mental health practitioner or school nurse. Depending which adult is utilised will account for parents/guardians being contacted for approval for meeting. All information discussed is confidential unless the student poses a risk of self-harm or harm to others. The Wellbeing team is able to access outside services for referral if the student requires additional support. Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships We utilise programs such as Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program to ensure we create an inclusive and safe environment for all to learn. This program is implemented in all classes throughout all year levels. Teachers, Education Support Staff, and the Wellbeing Team create learning environments that promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. Breakfast Club The Breakfast Club program is run in partnership with Foodbank Victoria and Foodshare Warrnambool to provide healthy meals that will help students focus better and participate fully in their education. Breakfast Club currently runs 2 mornings a week, on Mondays and Tuesdays all free of charge to all students, from the Healthy School Cafe. Fresh fruit is also provided every day and is placed in high flow areas for easy access for students. Our School Breakfast Club aims to ensure students start the day with a healthy meal, to improve concentration, which will assist students within classrooms. Breakfast Club also offers contact with the Wellbeing Team which is here to foster healthy eating, interpersonal communication skills and strong social connections.
