Students at Terang College have the opportunity to experience a wide-range of activities that enhance learning being undertaken onsite as part of our camps program.
In Term 3 each year Terang College provide the opportunity for the Year 11 Cohort to experience what Melbourne has to offer through a week of Work-Experience. Students find an employer to work with for the week and then staff provide an opportunity for the students to experience the city nightlife with trips to iconic places like Lygon Street, Ice-Skating, Bounce Trampoline Centre and a finishing the week with a fine dining experience at William Angliss College. Students navigate their way around Melbourne and surrounding suburbs using the public transport that Melbourne has on offer. This camp is something that all Terang College students look forward to each year.
This is a 10-day adventure camp that runs every two years and is open to our Year 9/10 students. Thanks to Christians Bus Co., students tour Central Australia, visiting Coober Pedy, Uluru, Kings Canyon & Alice Springs. This camp offers students an authentic Australian cultural experience, where they gain a tremendous amount of learnings around our unique country and many social opportunities, giving the 9-10 cohort a wonderful chance to form strong bonds. For many students it will be a once in a lifetime trip.
In years 7 and 8, students attend Coastal Forest Lodge Camp. This camp is located near Anglsea. The 3-day camp includes a variety of activities including surfing, mountain bike riding and kayaking. This camp is a great way for students to build connections with their peers, focusing on team work, communication and enjoyment. Students visit the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery on the way home, a perfect end to a lovely few nights away.
In years 5 and 6, students attend two different camps that alternate each year. Both camps offer opportunities to experience what life was like in different times and provide students with a chance to be immersed in history and culture.
Melbourne Urban Camp
A 3-day camp where students are immersed in the culture of the city. Students may visit Scienceworks, The MCG, China Town, The Old Melbourne Gaol, Melbourne Zoo, The Chinese Museum, and dine on Lygon Street and China Town. While in Melbourne, students learn the history of the City and are introduced to the experiences it has to offer. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to experience ‘urban life’ and relate their classroom learning to the real world.
Sovereign Hill Camp
A 3-day camp where students travel to Soveriegn Hill in Ballarat and spend two days heading back in time, dressing up and attending the Costume Schools Program. Students participate in a mine tour, watch candle dripping and confectionery demonstration and the AURA Night Show. Whilst on camp, students also visit Eureka Centre where they get to see the Eureka Flag from the Battle of Eureka Stockade. All of which align with our humanities content explored during classes.
In Year 3/4, students are exposed to local camps which tie in with our respective humanities units at school. We alternate between Grampians Retreat and Camp Kangaroobie (near Princetown), with both offering accommodation and activities in their respective facilities.
Camp Kangaroobie
A 3-day camp, where students have the opportunity to participate in activities; such as, bush cooking, hut building, a beach hike, a farm experience, environmental games, team-building activities, an exhilarating obstacle course and many more. The camp concludes with a visit to the 12 Apostles along the Shipwreck Coast.
Grampians Retreat
A 3-day camp, where students have the opportunity to participate in activities; such as, The Piccaninny Walk, flying on the giant swing, soaring on the flying fox, hut building, the low ropes course, orienteering, as well as many other team building and group activities.
In Years 1 & 2, students take part in a sleepover at school. They stay after school on a Thursday afternoon and participate in activities; such as, a disco, night walk, giant hide and seek in the environmental area, enjoying dinner together and lots more. This helps to prepare students for longer camps as they move into years 3 & 4 and beyond.
