STUDENT LIFE

Student Representative Council (SRC)

Student voice is valued at Terang College. Our Year 1 – Year 12 homegroups select their SRC members who attend monthly meetings to discuss fundraising events and advocate for all students.

Our SRC team is made up of a group of 29 student representatives ranging from Year 1 to12. The group meets monthly, there is a staff member that chairs the meetings and takes the minutes when items are raised by the students of the various classes.

As well as advocating for student voice and performing a range of fundraising and awareness activities for charity, the SRC team organise and run events such as cooking BBQ’s, advertising and making posters. They liaise with teachers and administration staff about upcoming events, promote and monitor the responsible disposal of rubbish within the school community, encourage healthy and sustainable living through a number of events such as Walk to School Day and Clean Up Australia Day and implement a range of initiatives to celebrate and strengthen our school Values, including involvement in International and National celebrations such as Harmony Day.

The meetings are a fun space, where all get a chance to view student perspectives from a range of age groups.

As well as playing a crucial role in the student experience there are benefits to students personally.  Some of the skills and experience students will gain from being an SRC representative include:

  • Communication skills
  • Negotiation skills
  • Team-working skills
  • Committee experience
  • Leadership experience
  • Motivation experience
  • Organisational skills
  • Make a positive contribution for your fellow students

Our SRC team also have the opportunity to attend local community events. Here, they gain leadership experience and engage with key stakeholders and councils, representing our college with pride and gaining valuable insight into the  conversations involved in decision making and processes.
